Earl Grey milk jam

July 24, 2014

I made 2 bottles of Earl Grey milk jam for 2 friends of mine for their birthday. The recipe is easy with just a few ingredients, but patience is needed here. You need to stir it constantly for 2 hours. Yes, 2 hours!

The taste, however, will make up for all the time and effort. This jam is a perfect match with plain bread and biscuits.

Earl Grey milk jam

1ℓ of milk
500mℓ of cream
100g of brown sugar
5 tea bags of Earl Grey
Glass bottles

I used Twinings Earl Grey for tea.

Mix milk, cream, sugar and tea. For tea, tear 3 tea bags and steep 2 tea bags. Bring the liquid mixture to a boil on low heat.

Stir constantly for 2 hours until the mixture gets thickened. Turn off the heat before it gets too sticky. See the brown color? :)

Pour it into a glass bottle. Put the bottle in the fridge for a night.

My friend loved it! She said her mom was thrilled to taste it. I feel so happy when someone is pleased with the present I give.

Hibiscus and butterfly in one

July 27, 2014

I saw this amazing moment on my stroll in the neighborhood. A butterfly landed on a petal of a hibiscus flower. The butterfly began to get into the flower, deeper and deeper. Then s/he fit right inside the flower and stood still. As if he took a nap in there!

Brunch cafe T.G in Itaewon

May 30, 2014

My friend and I had some delicious chicken salad in brunch cafe T.G in Itaewon, Seoul. The menu says it is Asian chicken salad. It had grilled juicy chicken, cucumber, tangerine, sliced almond, hard-boiled eggs, and other green vegetables. Simple, but yummy.

We also had Eggs Benedict with salmon on top, which was so-so. I guess I did not like the style of red-rimmed plate that had the food. Well, tableware totally matters.

Free iced coffee at Starbucks

July 25, 2014

It's 15th anniversary of Starbucks in Korea. They had a special event to give out free iced coffee for an hour. I couldn't miss it!

When I got to one of those many(or too many) Starbucks stores in the Gwanghawmun area, I found lots of people lining up. I added myself to the long line with my friends. It was so hot and humid outside.

I got my coffee after I waited for 40 minutes. Some might say 'what a waste of time' for just a cup of coffee, but well, it's fun hanging out and chatting while waiting.

After we got the coffee, we went inside the store. It was so cool and fresh inside as the air conditioner was turned on.

The event was supposed to continue until 4 p.m., but the line wasn't getting shorter. Good luck, everyone! :)

One fine morning on Jungdong-gil

May 1, 2014

Such a shiny morning on a Labor Day holiday! Yes, it was a national holiday, but I had to go to work. That, unexpectely, turned good as I had some time enjoying empty urban streets of Seoul before my work actually began.

8 a.m. in the morning, sunshine, green foliage, quiet streets..What a perfect morning!

As you might know, I'm a fan of the Deoksugung Palace neighborhood, not just because it's near my work. I like its oldness: old buildings, old trees, and old path.

Deoksugung Palace is surrounded by solid stone walls. One side of these walls created a beautiful stone wall road, called Jungdong-gil(gil meaning road in Korean). It was selected as one of the most beautiful roads in Korea.

Small flowers add beauty to the street.

There is an old church, Chungdong First Methodist Church, along the road. As the name indicates, the church, built in 1898, is the first Protestant church in Korea. Well, now it is popular for couples for a date. :)
