June 9, 2014

I am not good at gardening, but this herb is growing so well.

Here we call it 'rose herb' for its sweet smell, but not an accurate name.
(I looked it up and the academic name was, well, difficult.)

I will go to my parents' house in PyeongChang tomorrow and stay there until the weekend.

I am a bit worried about my plants including this while I am away.

Hope they stay well without me.

Street gallery in Ihwa Mural Village

January 19, 2014

Local artists including students have turned an old village in Seoul into a street gallery. Located on the hillside from Daehangno street to Naksan Park, this village called Ihwa Mural Village or Ihwa Maeul(이화 벽화 마을 in Korean) displays paintings on the walls of local residents' houses, and stairways. Most of the residents in the neighborhood have lived there for decades.

Finding wall paintings is like wandering around in a maze. Some are hidden deep in the alleys. I have failed to locate some paintings and sculptures around the village.

It is said the paintings change after some years. That makes this place more entertaining to visit from time to time.

Just remember one thing. This neighborhood is where real people live their real lives. Loud chats and bad-mannered behaviors are not considered appropriate.

Cherry blossom in Seokchon Lake Park

March 30, 2014

Seokchon Lake Park(석촌호수공원 in Korean) is one of the best places in Seoul to enjoy cherry blossom. The park, next to the Lotte World amusement park, is composed of two lakes, the east and the west. The huge lakes are all surrounded by cherry trees, which present a magnificent view of white and pink blossom in spring.

Luckily for me, it is so close to my house that I often go for a walk to the lakes in the evening. The night view of the cherry blossom is also beyond description. I will post the night cherry blossom soon.
