Spring finally set in PyeongChang

May is just 2 weeks away, but in PyeongChang(평창 in Korean) it is just the beginning of spring. It is not uncommon to see snow falling in early April there. Despite some lingering trace of winter, trees, grass, and flowers are on their course to new life. 

I can see yellow flowers of forsythia cover the wall across my parents' house and apricot blossom decorate the river bank nearby in white and pink. Moreover, it is always amazing to watch new green shoots sprout from trees and somewhere hidden from the ground.

Local market in PyeongChang

This Sunday was the day a traditional local market was held in my hometown, PyeongChang(평창 in Korean). Once every 5 days farmers and vendors of all kinds flock to small towns in Korea. They sell from farm crops to fish, clothes to crafts, saplings to flowerpots. Foods like topokki(red-colored spicy rice cake) and buchimgae(Korean style pancake) cannot be missed between shopping. 

It's just fun to mingle into the bustling scenes of the market and waver between buying and just watching. Well, I ended up buying one flowerpot for the day and my mom bought some vegetables like wild chive and mushrooms.

My 8-year-old nephew asked his grandmother, who began to pick edible young leaves of an euonymus alatus tree, not to hurt them.

He, however, could not resist his curiosity(after all, he's just a little boy) and ended up holding these fresh green leaves in his own hands.
